How the Helper Turns Ordinary Moments into Witness (John 16:5–15 Sermon)

May 18, 2025

Rev. Karl Grant

s the Holy Spirit only at work when emotions spike, hands rise in worship, and tongues are loosed in "heavenly prayer languages"? In John 16:5–15, Jesus comforts his discouraged friends by promising a Helper who will keep His voice alive and launch ordinary believers into extraordinary witness. This sermon shows why Christ's visible exit is actually our greatest advantage, how the Spirit pours forgiveness and power through Word, water, brea, and wine, and why there are zero benchwarmers in the Church.

Takeaways:

  • Jesus' ascension opens space for the Spirit to speak Christ's Word to every generation.

  • The Holy Spirit works through objective means of grace, not subjective feelings and experiences.

  • Every Christian, from infants to elders, is in the Spirit's starting lineup (no benchwarmers in the Church!)

  • Ordinary acts of faithfulenss become Spirit-empowered witness in home, work, and community

  • A simply daily reflection helpsyou notice and celebrate the Spirit's quiet victories.
