The King Revealed in Humility | John 12:12–19, Zechariah 9:9–12, Philippians 2:5–11

Rev. Karl Grant

What kind of king rides into a city on a borrowed donkey… to die? On Palm Sunday, the crowd welcomed Jesus with loud Hosannas and grand expectations. But Jesus came to reign in a way no one expected. In this sermon, we open our Holy Week series, *The King Revealed,* by following Christ’s humble procession into Jerusalem. We’ll reflect on why He came, what He came to do, and what His reign means for us — especially when it doesn’t feel like He’s in control! Spoiler: the throne of glory isn’t where you’d think.

Takeaways:

  • Jesus doesn't save by force, but by grace.

  • "Hosanna" isn't just praise, it's a cry for help.

  • His reign beigns not with a crown of gold, but with a cross of thorns.

  • Christ still reigns today through His Word and Sacraments

  • Don't look for Jesus in spectacle. Look for Him where He's promised to be!
