The King Revealed in Suffering

April 18, 2025

Rev. Karl Grant

Can you imagine a king whose greatest triumph was to be broken for you? In this Good Friday sermon, you’re invited to truly behold your King — bloody, bruised, crowned with thorns, reigning from a cross. Pilate’s mockery, “Behold your king,” becomes an accidental prophecy as Jesus willingly carries your guilt, your shame, and your record to the cross. This is no accident or tragedy but the glorious, intentional plan of salvation. Through every lash, mock, and nail, Christ doesn't just sympathize with sinners — He trades places with us. Will you dare to look fully at the cross and see the unimaginable love poured out for you?

Takeaways:

  • Jesus reigns not despite His suffering but through it.

  • The crucifixion is God's intentional plan, not a tragic mistake.

  • Our sins, not just sin in general, put Christ on the cross.

  • Christ willingly and lovingly took our place as substitute.

  • The cross is Jesus’ true coronation, not His defeat.

  • We are called to gaze fully at Christ’s suffering, not look away.
